Frequently asked questions.

How long have you been in business?

Sky Charter has been in business since 1984. We're fully licensed by the Civil Aviation Authority.

How experienced are your pilots?

Most of our pilots are ex-military, so they have a lot of flying hours logged. Some are qualified flying instructors and all are very well experienced and certified by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Do I need insurance?

You do not need additional insurance as we are covered by extensive aircraft and public liability insurance.

What type of helicopter do you use?

We own 3 of only 4 'floated' Bell Longranger helicopters in the UK. It has an excellent safety record and is the world's most popular tour aircraft. Visibility is excellent in comparison to most helicopters, it is comfortable and furnished luxuriously. We cannot recommend a better tour helicopter to you.

How well does it fly?

The flight is remarkably smooth in Longrangers. If you're thinking that it might be like a funfair ride, you would be mistaken.

How many passengers can it take?

The Longranger is designed to take up to 6 passengers in comfort, each with good visibility. One lucky passenger will be sitting next to the pilot.

Are there any restrictions?

Yes, we cannot take people with epilepsy. In addition, people with a severe heart condition will need a letter from their GP. Pregnant women also need confirmation from their GP and we do not recommend flying in the 1st or 3rd trimester.

We recommend children are aged over 3 years, but there is no upper age limit.

If you do have a disability, please call our office to discuss it, it will not necessarily bar you from flying.

There is no height or weight limit, within reason. The cabin is high enough to take virtually anyone but you do need to fit into a standard seat and the safety belt.

Can I speak to the pilot?

Of course! Pilots are generally a friendly lot and they enjoy their work. You'll be fitted with headphones and a microphone and the pilot will also give a running commentary throughout the tour.

Can I take a camera?

Taking photos is something we positively encourage. You wouldn't want to miss out on showing family and friends what you've been up to.

What happens if I cancel my flight?

Bookings can be cancelled at least 7 days before your flight which allows us to re-allocate your seat. If you do not turn up for your flight or you are late and so miss it are not entitled to reschedule or to a refund.

What happens if the flight is cancelled due to bad weather or other reaso which is not my fault?

There are rare occasions when the weather forecast determines that flying will not happen, even though the sun may be shining at the time. There may be other unforeseen circumstances when we cannot fly. We only cancel flying in the interest of passenger safety. If your flight is cancelled by us, simply contact us to arrange another date.

What time should I arrive for my flight?

You should arrive 30 mins before your flight so you can check in with our ground crew. This also gives us time to provide you with a safety briefing.

Can i just turn up and fly?

No, all flights must be pre booked.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
